Activities

Use this activity to engage all types of learners, while requiring that they refer to and incorporate details from the text over the course of the activity.

“A Good Cause”

In this activity, students will create an advertisement to generate donations for a worthy cause.

Jay Berry’s focus changes from a personal motive to a selfless motive when he donates his money to help his sister with her leg surgery. Jay Berry initially fails to consider others in his surroundings who may require assistance, but feels great fulfillment when he gains the perspective and maturity necessary to put Daisy’s needs first.

Think about a group or cause that would allow you to put the needs of others first. Bring awareness to this cause and develop an advertisement in the form of a flier or digital media to convince others to donate time in volunteer hours or other resources toward that effort. Use the points below to guide your thinking:

  • Consider a cause you believe is important.
  • Create an advertisement with an eye-catching picture.
  • Add a slogan to the advertisement for memory retention.
  • Provide information in the form of bulleted information on why people should give to the organization/cause.
  • Include instructions on how people might give to the cause.
