Not So Pure and Simple

During their ride to school, Qwan is unusually quiet, but he’s busy texting Angie, the girl Colossus cheated with. Qwan says Angie swears she didn’t do anything with Colossus. Del is impressed Qwan has been texting her for more than a few days since he normally doesn’t invest time getting to know girls.

At school, Del nervously asks MJ his question after English class since he can’t wait until Healthy Living. Using scientific terms such as testosterone and ejaculation, MJ explains that wet dreams are normal. Del swears the question isn’t for him while taking notes for Jameer. MJ asks Del to keep the conversation between them, since some people wouldn’t approve of it—especially outside of Healthy Living. Del is confused why it would matter, since MJ teaches the class.

Shianne Griffiths, one of the nine girls who got pregnant the previous year, comes back to school after having a baby. For the last two years, Del and Shianne have shared a secret: They did not have sex in the bathroom at Tanisha’s basement party; they pretended to and then enjoyed, at least for a while, their notoriety. Del is rattled by Shianne’s return and hopes she will keep their secret since he’s still a virgin.
