Chapter 29 Summary

The next day at practice, while the team is playing a round of Bull in the Ring, Tate pitches a plan to Troy. She suggests that at the Falcon’s next game Troy sits in the stands where he can read the opposing team’s plays. Then, using a cell phone, he calls the plays to his mother who relays them to Seth on the field. Troy points out that unfortunately his mother won’t even talk to Seth, let alone conspire with him.

Coach Renfro calls Troy to run in at Jamie, who is playing the role of bull in the game. Jamie cheats, ducking and cutting out Troy’s legs to avoid being hit. Troy retaliates, and Coach Renfro screams at Troy. When Tate and Nathan take Troy’s side, Coach Renfro yells at them, too, and makes them all run 20 laps together. When Tate’s mother arrives, she confronts Coach Renfro as Tate hatches an idea about how they can get Seth and Troy’s mom together. It all starts at the county punt, pass, and kick competition that Saturday.
